Solid Waste District receives $17,000 grant for crumb rubber at Veterans Park

The Garrard/Lincoln Solid Waste Management District was recently awarded a grant for $17,000 to install crumb rubber mulch at the First Southern Veterans Park in Lincoln County. “We are thrilled to have received this funding”, said Solid Waste Coordinator Chris Thomason. “This is a very, very competitive grant and many requests do not get funded”, Thomason said. Crumb rubber mulch is made from ground up waste tires and is used to provide a soft, safe playing surface for playgrounds. Crumb rubber mulch is also an effective method of recycling old tires, which have been a frequent item illegally dumped in many areas of the state.
